Gay Marriages

      Couples waited for hours to apply for marriage licenses on the first day same sex unions, became legal in the nation's capital. Cheers came from the crowd when the first couple completed their paper work at the city's marriage bureau inside the Moultrie courthouse, a couple blocks from the U.S. Capitol. By noon more than 50 had completed their applications. The rest stood in line in the courthouse hall ways  

      Couples cannot marry until the three day mandatory waiting period. District of Columbia law.  Couples got cup cakes from a city councilman who sponsored the gay marriage law, and throughout the morning, people applauded as they exited the marriage bureau with their completed applications 

      John Bunda and his  partner of 10 years, Charley Jones, were the  first in line arriving just after 6 a.m. They are already domestic partners in the city but wanted to become legally married. Charley said It's like waking up Christmas morning,  who teared up when he finished his paperwork. It's a dream come true.
